Siberia is often referred to as a far-far-away cold place in the middle of Russian nowhere. What and where is this place that we all speak about? Let's break it down below.

 

Large Territory

Siberia is located in Northern Asia and stretches 13 million square km. It's one of the least discovered regions of our planet. The region of Siberia is actually larger than all of Canada which spans 9.9 million square km. With such a large area it's obvious why Siberia is can be a very special place with a ton of interesting facts.

Siberia covers 77 percent of Russia and if it was its own independent country it would be the largest in the world.

 

Lake Baikal

This large lake is massive and ancient. It is also considered the deepest lake in the world often allowing visitors to see up to 130 feet deep when the weather co-operates. 

The area surrounding Lake Baikal are popular spots for those who like the outdoors, hiking and wildlife. This is the largest freshwater lake in the world by volume and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.

It has incredible biodiversity and is often called the Galapagos of Russia. The Lake has more than 3,700 and 80% of these can only be found in this area.

 

Trans-Siberian Railway

This extensive networking of railways has been connecting Moscow in the Wst to Vladivostok in the East since 1916 and is still being expanded. It is the longest railway line in the world and now connects with railways in Mongolia, China and North Korea.

It would take you more than 7 days to travel the 5,800 miles of track. The voyage would take you through 87 towns and make you pass through 7 time zones.
